Two changes to Edmonton’s transit services announced for Sunday caused headaches for many passengers.

LRT services were suspended all day, leaving customers relying on buses to make their way around the city.

According to the City’s website, the buses were running every seven or eight minutes and stopping at every station between Clareview and Century Park.

However, passengers told CTV News the changes caused a dent in their plans.

“They might as well just run it six days a week because it is down so many times,” Jon said, adding he was frustrated notices were not posted sooner.

“Every Sunday I go somewhere and it is about one Sunday, two Sundays a month I get to use a train.”

The disruption allowed crews to test the communication-based train control signaling system. The system has been installed to allow the Metro line and Capital line to share the tracks.

Sunday was also the official opening of the Kingsway-Royal Alex transit centre, which is located across the street from the old Kingsway station.

The new facilities include public washrooms, a retail centre, improved shelters and lighting.

This won’t be the last time LRT services will be disrupted but the City indicated it hopes to schedule the testing so as to minimize the impact on passengers.
