One person is dead after a collision on Anthony Henday Drive early Saturday morning.
Police say the collision happened around 5:20 a.m. between 87 Avenue and Whitemud Drive where a semi-truck rear-ended a pick-up.
The driver of the pick-up, believed to be in his 30s from the Capital Region, has died but there were no other injuries.
Edmonton Police Service Staff Sgt. Barry Maron said a third vehicle became involved after being hit by flying debris following the initial collision.
“They happened to be passing the scene just as the collision occurred and a piece of the pick-up truck actually fly and hit the side of their vehicle.”
Officials say both vehicles were heading southbound and alcohol and speed are not factors in the incident.
They expect the area to be closed off for several hours as the investigation continues.
