Edmonton fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a home overnight in the Bellevue neighbourhood.
Firefighters were called to the home in the area of 114 Avenue and 68 Street, Sunday at about 11 p.m.
The home was under construction, a few months away from completion, so no one was inside.
Firefighters arrived to find the home completely engulfed in flames, and the flames were starting to spread.
“When they arrived they had the house to the north and south also partially involved,” District Fire Chief Greg Flett said. “They managed to knock it down, cover exposures of the house to the north and south.
After the fire was out, all that remained was the charred frame; crews knocked it down to prevent it from unsafely collapsing.
Officials later confirmed the fire was arson, police were taking over the investigation – damage to the home and neighbouring houses is estimated to be $300,000.
