Air Canada flight 8481 from Calgary to Grande Prairie was forced to make an emergency landing at the Edmonton International Airport Thursday night.

The flight left Calgary Thursday night and experienced a blown tire upon take-off. Strong winds at the Calgary International Airport forced the plane to land in Edmonton around 8:36 p.m.

One witness, who didn't want to be identified, said they were concerned the plane was "going to blow up because of all the sparks."

Alberta Health Services confirmed with CTV News that three passengers on the flight were transported to hospital with minor injuries. Eleven ambulances and EMS crews were initially dispatched to the scene.

71 passengers and 4 crew members were aboard the flight.

One runway at the airport has been closed while Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigators examine the scene.

No flight delays are expected.
