Police are searching for three suspects involved in a downtown assault and carjacking that occurred around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

A 45-year-old woman had her vehicle stolen while exiting a parking lot in the area of 106 Avenue and 102 Street.

The male suspects, all believed to be in their twenties, allegedly approached the woman’s SUV opened the car doors and pulled the woman out of the driver seat.

The men – whose faces were hidden by scarves – then entered the vehicle and drove off.

Police say the woman, who was alone at the time, was traumatized by the incident but not injured.

The stolen vehicle is described as a 2006 grey four-door Ford Freestyle, with the licence plate HUX 341.

This is the second violent carjacking this week in Edmonton however police do not believe the two incidents are related.

“We see a lot of stolen vehicles throughout the year, but very few carjackings,” says Downtown Division Acting Staff Sgt. Michael Hickey. “When a life is put at risk during the process of a crime, the stakes increase dramatically, and the criminal consequence jumps from theft to robbery.”

Police are still looking for a suspect involved in a carjacking Tuesday, where a blue Toyota Venza was stolen at gunpoint in a retail parking lot in west Edmonton.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
