RCMP investigating after body found in burned-out vehicle

RCMP east of Edmonton are investigating, after a vehicle fire led emergency crews to find a body inside.

Police said officers and emergency crews were called to a vehicle fire on Range Road 224 near Township Road 534 in Strathcona County at about 4:20 a.m. Monday.

The fire was put out by crews, and then officials found human remains.

Police said the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed, and an autopsy has yet to be scheduled.

Investigators from Stathcona County RCMP, RCMP Major Crimes North and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section are working on the case.

Anyone with information about the vehicle, described as a newer Dodge Journey SUV, or about the incident, or if anything suspicious was seen in the area of the fire earlier in the morning is asked to call Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
