Officials at the North Millbourne Community League Rink said the skating season there was ending early, after suspects broke in, and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment.

In a post on Facebook, the community league said the rink was closed for the season, because their snowblower and sweeper had been stolen – they said the break-in happened at some point on Friday night or Saturday morning.

It’s believed two men stole the lock box meant for rink staff to use, took it off site to get the keys out of it, before going back to the facility and taking the equipment. A leaf blower was also taken in the break-in.

Later on, officials noticed someone had broken into the gazebo, and the kitchen of the hall.

It’s estimated the value of the stolen equipment is $12,000 – it was paid for with money collected through gaming, fundraising and donations.

The community league has insurance.

Surveillance cameras were recording the theft, and the league said that video had been shared with police.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.
