A small plane crash near Sylvan Lake has claimed the life of a 70-year-old man on Saturday.
According to RCMP at about 1:30 p.m. emergency personnel were called to a rural area about 10 kilometres west of the central Alberta town.
Police discovered what they described as a “small, single engine two-seat plane” in a cultivated field – Mike Paul Chysyk, who was traveling alone, was pronounced dead on scene.
RCMP said the plane was registered out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Investigators with the Transportation Safety Board are assisting with the investigation – witnesses to the crash have been identified.
No word on the cause of the crash.
Sylvan Lake is located about 25 kilometres west of Red Deer.
