A water main break was struck during construction on the Valley Line LRT Saturday evening.

The break occurred on Jasper Avenue between 95 Street and 95A Street.

“Last night, at around 6 p.m., the construction crews here had an incident where a water main was struck, and water obviously came out of the ground and flooded Jasper Avenue, causing us to close the street,” TransEd spokesperson Dean Heuman told CTV Edmonton.

“EPCOR was called immediately. They were on site within 30 minutes to shut off all the water. All the water since drained, and as far as we know, there hasn’t been any leaking into anyone’s property,” Heuman said.

The area will be completely closed until at least mid-week, around September 28.

“This is a full closure of Jasper Avenue,” Heuman said. “It will be that way tomorrow morning for the morning commute, and the afternoon. We’ve said that by midweek it will clear. We’re obviously working to get that done much faster, back to the one-lane in each direction that was already previously being done.”

Heuman said that the disruption will not delay the LRT project.
