A young man was arrested in the west end early Tuesday morning, accused of killing his family dog.
Police were involved in a dramatic takedown near Anthony Henday Drive and Stony Plain Road just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers said just a few hours earlier, they had been called to a home in the area of 107 Avenue and Winterburn Road after reports of a fight.
Police confirm a dog was killed in the fight.
Scott Pattison with the Edmonton Police Service says the dog was "mutilated."
He tells CTV News an estimated $5,000 in damages was caused in the home before the man fled.
Pattison said police believe the suspect broke into a local business and Winterburn Elementary School, causing an additional $5,000 in damage.
Air-1 was called in and officers arrested the 18-year-old man, after receiving further reports of the suspect throwing things at vehicles in the area.
Charges of cruelty to animals, mischief and break-and-enter are pending against the 18-year-old.
