ATCO has announced the company is reentering the retail market, after more than 10 years, with the launch of ATCOenergy.

With the launch of the new company, ATCOenergy will compete with EPCOR and Direct Energy across Alberta – the company promises the lowest administration fees, $7 for gas and electricity combined, and lower rates than other companies.

In addition, the company said there would be sign up incentives and loyalty credits for long-term customers.

CEO Nancy Southern said the decision to launch ATCOenergy was a long time coming.

“People want to be able to understand their bills, so [there is] greater transparency,” Southern said. “There’s a lack of understanding how the electricity market works, or the natural gas market.”

ATCO said a household could save $400 over a three year contract with ATCOenergy.
