Edmonton police have been investigating after a shooting in the downtown area.

Officers said they heard gunshots around 108 Street and Jasper Avenue at 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

When police arrived at the scene there were several bullet casings found at 101 Avenue and 108 Street.

A 32-year-old man was also found nearby suffering from gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

A resident who lives nearby said it sounded like a “hail of gunfire.

“I heard a couple of gunshots and then a whole volley of gunfire. It sounded like at least two shooters about 20 shots in total I’d say,” Rob Cool explained.

“Whoever was shooting, they wanted the guy dead.”

Officials said the victim was known to police and they do not believe the shooting was random.
