A family from Saskatoon was surprised with a trip to Disneyland on Saturday.

The Lining family was involved in a serious collision back in December, after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their vehicle. The incident left the family members, including young Kaitlyn Lining, severely injured.

“She’s having a hard time at school right now,” said Rommel Lining. “Because of what happened, she’s been traumatized.”

Following the collision, a trip to Disneyland was made possible by the Mounsef family. Their toddler, Geo, was killed back in 2013 when he was hit by a vehicle that crashed into the patio where he was eating. Geo’s grandfather, Livio Fent, helped organize the Lining family surprise.

“It keeps the memory alive,” said Fent. “It makes what we do in his name. It feels like he’s still with us.”

Following a judge ruling that the suspect who crashed into the patio was not impaired, the Mounsef family made it their mission to help families impacted by drinking and driving.

Now, the Lining family wants to pay it forward too.

“I want to be one of those families,” said Rommel Lining. “I believe that having to survive this accident gives us a second chance to actually be a voice to those people who don’t have that chance anymore.”
