Amal Mohamud is a digital producer and assignment editor at CTV News Edmonton.
Amal, born in Toronto and raised in Edmonton, is a first generation Somali-Canadian breaking barriers through her media work.
Her stories focus on highlighting diversity. Over the years, Amal has developed her storytelling skills, highlighting the stories of marginalized communities and underrepresented voices in Edmonton.
Amal won Diversity Magazine's AC Junior Achievement Award in 2019. The Somali Women and Children Association awarded her the Community Service Recognition Award that same year, and she received the Fil Fraser Award from the National Black Coalition Canada in 2020.
Outside of work, she loves travelling the world and learning about new cultures. She enjoys volunteering at her favourite local mosques, watching movies with family and friends and playing soccer.
Amal speaks English, Somali and Arabic.
