The sun has risen on another day in the local version of an international movement; a day after protestors marched through downtown Edmonton and set up camp in a downtown park.

Dozens of people slept in the park located on Jasper Avenue and 102 Street overnight.

On Sunday morning, many of the ‘occupiers' had were drinking coffee, playing hacky sack and raking leaves to warm up.

The start of the protest began as a local branch of a ‘Global Day of Action', and was an extension of a movement that began in the U.S. several weeks ago.

Hundreds gathered in Churchill Square at noon on Saturday, to march through the downtown core, and make a final stop to occupy the small downtown park.

At about noon, more than fifty gathered in the park for a general council.

The council decided to stay in the park for at least one more night, CTV News has learned the police and the owner of the park have agreed to let the protestors stay.

So far, the group has earned about $700 in donations – and they plan to spend the money on food, and supplies to keep warm.

The Postal Workers Union has contributed $500, specifically to rent portable toilets – an essential need to keep the protest running long term.

The reasons for the protest vary, but their ideals are the same, they seek equality, peace and change.

Participants told CTV News they would not leave the park until they see change.

"I think it's going to be nice for awhile," Activist Luke Lupul said on Saturday afternoon. "The novelty will wear off, but I'm not planning to vacate anytime soon."
