The RCMP say one or more people could still be inside the destroyed Bonnyville Hotel after a fire broke out overnight.

The blaze broke out on the third floor around 2:30 a.m. The historic hotel consisted of an old bar, a barber shop, a Chinese restaurant and some suites.

Eleven people were evacuated from the building and treated for minor injuries. One firefighter suffered some minor burns in the blaze. In total, about 45 firefighters were called to the scene.

Officials aren't sure if the old building is salvageable. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Recently, there has been a dispute between area volunteers and the town, but that didn't appear to hamper the firefighting efforts Thursday.
