Edmonton police said Tuesday that a violent, early morning road rage incident that left a woman in hospital was under investigation – and investigators were trying to track down the suspect.

Officers with the EPS southeast division were called to the reported road rage incident in the area of 76 Avenue and 87 Street, at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Reports indicated a 34-year-old woman was headed northbound on 87 Street when she approached a small silver hatchback vehicle, that was stopped in the eastbound lane – she was trying to turn onto 77 Avenue.

The woman honked her horn, before passing the vehicle.

It’s alleged the vehicle then followed the woman to a nearby address where she left her vehicle to go inside.

At this point, reports say a male suspect ran up to her, before hitting her on both arms with a crowbar.

Paramedics were called to the scene, and treated and then transported the woman to hospital. She underwent surgery for broken arms.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect male, who was seen in images taken from a dashboard camera.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • About 30-years-old
  • 185.5 cm (6’1”) tall
  • Medium build
  • Brown hair
  • Blue eyes

The suspect was wearing a grey toque, blue jeans, and a dark-coloured jacket at the time of the assault.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a mid-2000’s silver four-door Pontiac Wave, with a seven digit Alberta licence plate starting with the letter B. The vehicle also had a small spoiler on the rear hatch, and steel rims on the tires.

Police would also like to speak to two witnesses seen walking across the street from where the incident occurred in the King Edward neighbourhood. Police said one of the witnesses is a woman who was wearing a long white coat, and a man walking two dark-coloured dogs.

Anyone with details on the incident is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

UPDATE (8/3/17): EPS originally identified the vehicle as a silver Chevrolet Aveo, but said on Wednesday that the vehicle had been identified as a Pontiac Wave.
