Sexual assault charges against a retired teacher in Edmonton were withdrawn in 2022.

Gilbert Lavigne, a teacher of 30 years, was accused of sexually assaulting three young students between 2016 and 2019.

His trial was scheduled to begin on June 19, 2023, but charges of sexual assault and sexual contact were withdrawn last year.

Lavigne taught at several Edmonton public schools during his career, police said when charges were laid.
