The Prairie Mall in Grande Prairie was evacuated around 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon after a single shot was fired.
RCMP said that officers arrived on scene following the shot and learned that two groups of people had an altercation in the mall. In the process, a male was injured and suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury. A woman was who was close by also suffered a non-life threatening injury. Both patients were taken to hospital.
The building was evacuated, and a mall spokesperson said the mall was placed under lockdown. RCMP searched the area for the men involved who had fled the scene, however the suspects were not located.
RCMP said that the event was not random and that there is no risk to the public.
Members with the General Investigation Section (GIS), the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) and the Alberta Law Enforcement Reponse Team (ALERT) will continue investigation.
