Edmontonians will be able to walk a little easier downtown beginning Friday – as some sidewalks closed due to Jasper Avenue construction are set to reopen.
Pedestrians will be able to access 102 Street north of Jasper Avenue beginning Friday.
The sidewalk on the north side of Jasper Avenue between 101 Street and 102 Street will reopen Monday.
All sidewalks along the north side of Jasper Avenue between 100 Street and 102 Street will reopen by the end of the month.
The sidewalks have been closed since last spring, as part of the Jasper Avenue streetscape project, which also includes repairs to the Central LRT Station.
The project has resulted in a number of road closures and detours.
The city said Thursday the north side of the Jasper Avenue road and sidewalk work is nearly completed.
Crews will then switch to the south side of Jasper Avenue in early April.
Traffic is expected to be moved to the newly-paved north side, with one late of traffic open in each direction from April to October.
Work on the two-year Jasper Avenue streetscape and Central LRT Station rehabilitation project was carried over from last November.
Crews worked over the winter to bring the project back on schedule.
It’s expected to be completed by the end of October.
