RCMP in St. Albert are still trying to find out who is behind a string of deliberately set fires in a city park last week.
On Thursday, August 16, police said three male suspects started three separate fires in St. Albert, near Lion’s Park and St. Albert Place.
Last week, police said at about 4:15 that morning, the suspects used gasoline to set fire to a bench and a nearby garbage can in Lion’s Park.
Police said the bench was completely destroyed in the fire.
It appears the suspects then moved on towards St. Albert Place via the Red Willow Trail system, ending up behind the building.
Investigators said the suspects then poured gasoline on another garbage can, before setting it on fire.
The container they had been carrying the fuel in then appeared to catch on fire, before one of the suspects threw it a short distance away.
According to police, two of the suspects might have been singed by the fire.
Part of the incident was caught by surveillance cameras, and police distributed stills taken from the video in an effort to identify the suspects.
Days later, police are still seeking information, and released a new image – also taken from surveillance footage – that shows one of the suspect’s faces.
St. Albert RCMP are asking anyone with information that could help in the investigation to contact them by phone at 780-458-7700 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
