RCMP in northern Alberta said officers were responding late Wednesday afternoon to a serious collision on Highway 881.
According to Lac La Biche RCMP, officers were responding late Wednesday afternoon to a collision involving an SUV and a tractor trailer unit on Highway 881 at Range Road 94 on the Heart Lake First Nation.
Police said the driver and passenger in the SUV were pronounced dead on the scene.
Due to the crash, the highway in both directions was impassable, and traffic was being rerouted at Range Road 55 to Highway 63.
RCMP are investigating the cause of the crash, no other details are available.
