An Edmonton woman has died after a collision involving an alleged impaired driver.

RCMP said the incident happened around 1 p.m. on Saturday on Highway 881, 15 kilometers south of Anzac.

They said a pilot vehicle operator was conducting traffic control as part of a wideload vehicle escort.

A northbound pick-up truck hit the stationary pilot vehicle and the pedestrian.

The 49-year-old woman died at the scene.

Police said they will not release her name out of respect for the family.

The 36-year-old male driver of the pick up was taken to hospital and later released.

He is now facing several charges including impaired driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

Police continue to investigate.
