An early morning fire tore through an Edmonton metal recycling facility located on the corner of 114 Avenue and 143 Street Sunday.
At about 4:30 a.m. crews were called to Penny Metal Recycling Ltd. where they arrived to find the office building portion of the business on fire.
“The fire was in the roof and coming out one of the windows at the time,” said Robert Bend with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
“We ended up having about nine units on scene, followed by extra support units after that,” he said.
Crews were able to contain the blaze to the offices – the warehouse portion of the business was not affected.
Bend said while the fire was extinguished relatively quickly, a backho was called in to “pull apart” the building in an effort to find “hidden fires”.
No one was injured.
The investigation continues.
