RCMP in Grande Prairie said a man from that city had been charged in the death of a British Columbia man over the weekend.
On Saturday, May 14, Nikkolas Steenhuisen, 34, of British Columbia left the Home Hardware store, and reportedly saw a man he didn’t know in his truck.
RCMP said Steenhuisen confronted the man, who fled to another truck and tried to get away – as Steenhuisen attempted to stop the suspect, police said he ended up on the running board of the suspect was trying to flee in, when it collided with a parked vehicle, pinning Steenhuisen.
The suspect drove away, leaving Steenhuisen serious injured in the parking lot of the store. Police and paramedics were called at 12:55 p.m., and Steenhuisen was taken to hospital in Grande Prairie, before being airlifted by STARS to an Edmonton-area hospital.
RCMP said he succumbed to his injuries before he arrived in Edmonton.
RCMP said Michael Ginter, 30, is facing a charge of second degree murder, and a cont of possession of property obtained by crime, exceeding $5,000.
Police said Ginter is in custody, and was scheduled to appear in court on May 20.
