RCMP west of Edmonton are trying to track down a suspect believed to have been behind a violent robbery at a convenience store early Wednesday morning.
Spruce Grove RCMP said just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, a man entered a convenience store in that community, brandished a handgun, and demanded a bag, lottery tickets and cigarettes from the store clerk.
Police said the suspect reached for the tickets, but appeared to be having trouble getting them – so he demanded the male employee, the only person working at the store at that time, to help him.
When the employee moved to assist, RCMP said the suspect struck him in the face with the gun, cutting the side of his face.
The suspect fled with the lottery tickets.
RCMP said the suspect is described as:
- Caucasian
- In his 20s
The suspect was reportedly wearing dark glasses, a black hat, blue shirt, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
Anyone with information that could help police in their investigation is asked to call Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP at either 780-968-7200 or 780-962-2222 – or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
