Alberta Health Services has issued a contaminated water advisory for a lake located west of Edmonton, after fecal bacteria was found in the water.

AHS said elevated levels of fecal coliforms had been found in the waters of Hasse Lake, in Parkland County.

As a result, AHS is advising the public to not swim or wade in, or drink water from the lake.

Officials said the water-borne organisms can cause vomiting or diarrhea if the water is consumed, and any other contact with water from the lake can cause skin, ear, and eye infections.

Officials said they will continue to monitor the water in the lake.
