Edmonton police said Thursday that an Edmonton Transit System (ETS) bus driver had been charged in connection to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

Back on Tuesday, October 4, officers were called to the area of 87 Avenue and 169 Street in response to a crash involving an ETS bus at about 2:15 p.m.

Reports indicated the bus was headed northbound on 169 Street, made a left turn onto 87 Avenue and hit an 83-year-old woman who was crossing the street. Police said the pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time.

The woman was treated on the scene and taken to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

On Thursday, police said the bus driver, Kellie Rowe, 42, is facing a charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol contributed to the collision.
