Matt O'Daly was shocked to discover that the photo radar ticket he received in the mail recently was no joke.

O'Daly was fined $71 for driving seven kilometres over the speed limit on Edmonton's Rainbow Valley Bridge.

"It says speed limit 80 and it says recorded speed 87," O'Daly told CTV News. "Seven is kind of outrageous because I am so close to it, so close to the speed limit, what are they going to do, give me a ticket because I am going too slow?"

Usually each operator goes over the violations to make sure it is accurate, however CTV News was told that in O'Daly's case, an error was made.

"What happened is the officer didn't do his check to verify the speed zone, and mistook an 80 zone for a 70 zone," said Sgt. Barry Maron with EPS.

Now all 158 tickets issued that same evening O'Daly was ticketed on the Rainbow Valley Bridge, will be revoked. Even those people clocked at well over 80 kilometres an hour.

"We'll be sending out a letter letting them know that we'll be cancelling those tickets," said Maron.

And that's a relief for those who thought they would have to cough up the cash.

"I don't want to give them money, not for going seven kilometres," said O'Daly.

The tickets being revoked were issued on Sunday June 21st between 7:48 p.m. and 10:05 p.m.. Police said a letter will be sent out informing motorists about the change. If you have already paid, you can get reimbursed by calling police at 780-421-7002.
