Local dancer Jeff Mortensen finished third in Sunday night's finale of So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Edmonton, made it to the top four for the season's finale and performed live Sunday night.

More than 100 of his family members, friends and fans watched him perform from Richard's Pub and Dunluce Steak House & Pizza, located at 121st Street and 161st Avenue.

Mortensen's sister day he trained 16-hours a day as a gymnast growing up and did Ukrainian dancing on the side, before joining the famous Shumka troupe.

"He's done well, really well. I usually only see him do Ukrainian dance, so it is pretty good to see him do different things," said his sister, Kirsten Mortensen.

She says he started to take dancing more seriously after he scored a job with Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas.

Mortensen was cut from the show after making it into the top 40 during season two, and auditioned again in Vancouver this year after moving west to train in different genres of dance.

The title of Canada's favourite dancer went to ballroom dancer Denys Drozdyuk of Toronto.
