EDMONTON -- Face coverings will be mandatory in all public indoor spaces in Edmonton starting Aug. 1.

The bylaw, passed on July 29, applies to all facilities including city-owned buildings and privately-owned businesses.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw has encouraged Albertans to wear a mask, especially where physical distancing is not possible. Wearing one can help protect the people around you from droplets and may stop you from touching your face and nose, she has said.

Alberta Health says not to wear a mask that's dirty, been worn by someone else or does not fit properly.

For more information on masks, visit the Alberta COVID-19 website.
