A man was arrested after two fires broke out in a southwest Edmonton home Saturday night.

Fire fighters responded to a fire alarm in a house in the Chappelle area at 9:04 p.m., Edmonton Fire Rescue said.

There were two fires: in the kitchen, and in a living room area.

Both blazes were out at 10:19 p.m., a spokesperson told CTV news.

Neighbours told CTV News the man acted strangely throughout the day up until he was arrested by police.

“He was agitated all day, not all there,” Florence Walsh said. “He was just so confused that he went into a couple neighbours’ home, thinking it was his house.”

Another neighbour said the man arrested attempted to get into his home and threatened him.

“The doorbell started ringing out of control and banging on the door and I came and the guy was standing at the door and yelling some weird stuff,” Dave O’Shaughnessy said. “He was swearing and said, ‘I’m going to come back and take care of you.’ I’m not sure – it didn’t make a lot of sense.”

Edmonton police is investigating the fire to determine if it was deliberately set.
