It was early in the morning when Sarah Kuntz was awoken from a deep sleep.

"At [6 a.m.] we hear the doorbell going like crazy and I go and open the door and it was my neighbour and she said that our house was on fire and we needed to get out and she was on the phone with 911." said Kuntz. The other side of the duplex in Southwest Edmonton where she lives with her husband was indeed on fire, smoke and flames were seen shooting out from the back of the home.

Firefighters arrived at 171 Street and 7 A Avenue shortly after and were able to quickly put out the blaze. Everyone that lives in both sides of the duplex got out safely.

Kuntz says the smoke alarm had not been set off yet and that the neighbours efforts were appreciated. “I’m glad that they’re all okay and that she thought to come over and wake us up.”

Fire damage was contained to one side of the duplex, no cause has been determined as the fire is still under investigation.
