A well-known photographer forced to stop building his million-dollar home has now put it up for sale.

Con Boland was ordered by the city to halt all construction on his dream home three years ago after officials ruled the home was built too high and too close to the property line in Riverdale.

He modified it, but after sinking $1.2 million into the home, he's out of cash.

"The budget to finish it is severely depleted," he said.

In the past there were those who protested Boland's house.

Some residents are now concerned with a pricetag of $1 million, it may not sell.

"The tarps kind of falling apart now and I feel like having it for sale it's just more work for whoever buys," said Ellen Anthony.

Although there are some residents who have supported Boland's efforts.

"I'm sure whatever he would have done would have been beautiful," said Don Bonnar.

The city is mostly satisfied the development is up to code, but there's another issue on the table -- the home was supposed to have been built start to finish in five years, and that time is now running out.

"If nothing is occurring on site we have the option to cancel the building permit there and if they wish to start up construction they'd have to pay fees to renew the permit," said Maurice Otto with the City of Edmonton.

But Boland hopes it doesn't come to that.

"It's been like going to hell and back to try to do something good for the community," he said.

Boland hopes a buyer can do some good for the home he started.
