Edmonton police say a day after a woman was seriously injured in an apparent case of road rage, a number of tips on the potential identity of the suspect have come in, but a suspect is not yet in custody.
At about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the King Edward neighbourhood, to the area of 76 Avenue and 87 Street over the incident.
Reports stated a 34-year-old woman was driving on 87 Street when she approached a small vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane, as she was trying to turn onto 77 Avenue. Police said the woman honked her horn before passing.
It’s alleged the driver of the small vehicle followed her home, and she got out of her car to go inside – but the male suspect got out of his car, and ran up to her – striking her with a crowbar.
She was taken to hospital by paramedics where she had surgery for two broken arms.
Police are looking for help in identifying the suspect, identified as a Caucasian male, about 30-years-old, 185.5 cm (6’1”) tall, medium build with brown hair and blue eyes.
The suspect was also wearing a grey toque, blue jeans, and a dark-coloured jacket at the time.
Police originally identified the suspect vehicle as a silver Chevrolet Aveo, but changed the description to a Pontiac Wave on Wednesday. The vehicle also had a seven-digit licence plate, starting with the letter B.
CTV News was on the scene of the incident Wednesday morning, and a vehicle matching that description drove by – police have sought that video footage from CTV News.
AMA officials shared some tips for drivers in the wake of this case, advising motorists to use their horn sparingly, and if they’re being followed, to not go home, but to go someplace public.
