Police east of Edmonton are investigating, after officers received a report that a student had a gun at a Sherwood Park high school Thursday.

RCMP said the reports came in around 10 a.m., and police responded a short time later.

It was reported that a Salisbury High School student, a boy had been talking to another student when it’s alleged he produced a handgun, and pointed it at the other student.

The other student left, and reported the matter to school officials – before the suspect was seen leaving the school in a van.

Police said the school initiated lockdown procedures as a precaution.

RCMP tracked down the suspect, and found him near the school – the student was arrested without incident.

Investigators are working on the case, but RCMP said it’s believed the alleged firearm may have been a pellet or BB gun.
