Kitscoty RCMP and crews with CN are responding to a collision involving tanker trucks and a train near the community of Islay.
RCMP said officers were called to reports of a collision involving a train and vehicles on secondary Highway 893 at about 6:45 a.m.
It was reported a fluid hauler truck collided with a moving train, causing the first truck to collide with a second fluid hauler truck.
Then, a third fluid hauler truck hit the train, and came to a rest in the ditch.
The first truck involved rolled, and also stopped in a ditch.
The train derailed as a result of the crash.
Emergency crews including RCMP, firefighters and paramedics were on the scene – two of the truck drivers have minor injuries, and were being treated on the scene, a third driver is being airlifted to hospital in Edmonton by STARS, he has serious injuries.
RCMP said there were no reported injuries to train personnel.
Officials said the tankers of the train were empty, as were all three trucks involved in the crash, and no hazardous goods were spilled.
CN Rail said their own crews were also responding to the incident.
