RCMP in Westlock arrested a man suspected in a stabbing that prompted an Alberta Emergency Alert Friday night.

The alert, warning local residents that the man was armed with a knife and considered "extremely dangerous," was issued around 40 minutes before the arrest was made.

The man was wanted in connection to a stabbing at a home off Highway 44 near Township Road 603 in Westlock County. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP said the man had left the home after the stabbing and fled into a wooded area. Police dogs were called in to assist and he was located and arrested at around 7:10 p.m. without incident.

Westlock, a town of 5,100, is located 72 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
