A city report is recommending council move forward with bid for Edmonton as host of the Expo in 2017.

The time is right for Edmonton, the report suggests, as the city has the capacity, track record, community support, site options and experience essential for a hosting city.

The report says preparing a business case will cost about $4.5 million. It recommends half should come from the city and half from the province.

If council approves the idea, the city will create detailed technical and operational assessments of the requirements of an Expo, including site analysis, financial analysis and infrastructure requirements.

The decision of recommending a bid was an unanimous descision from all of the committee's 40 members.

City council will discuss the report and decide on the further action on Oct. 29.
