A teenage boy was sent to hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed following a confrontation at a birthday party in west Edmonton.

The incident happened outside a home near 186 Street and 75th Avenue at around midnight.

Police say the victim, who is believed to be about 17-years-old, was stabbed in the stomach after an argument outside of the home where a birthday party was being held.

The teen was rushed to hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police say parents were home for most of the party, but happened to step out when the stabbed occurred.

The incident has police advising people to keep their parties small to prevent any violence.

"The best advise is keep it small because numbers are what seem to make this happen," said Sgt. Komar. "Doesn't matter how good the kids can be or how much supervision you can have, friends invite friends of friends and when it gets bigger the less the group cares about the host."
