A summer storm that swept through Grande Prairie Tuesday evening has caused flooding in some parts of the city.

Emergency crews were busy attending to calls all over the city and the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership issued releases throughout the night warning residents to use common sense. They advised people stay indoors if possible and to stay away from flood waters, storm drains and manhole covers.

As of late Tuesday evening, the city’s Emergency Operations Centre had been deactivated as water from the storm had started to recede. Grande Prairie transit was temporarily suspended due to the flooding.

The city is asking the public to call the Grande Prairie after hours phone line at 780-532-4519 for non-emergent situations only.
