Three people from the Edmonton area are dead after a head-on collision involving a tractor trailer and a vehicle on Highway 5 in the B.C. Interior.
The accident happened at about 9:30 Sunday morning.
The B.C. Ambulance service has confirmed three people died at the scene, while another person was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
The driver of the truck, a 57-year-old man, wasn't hurt.
"Preliminary investigations seem to indicate that there was a semi truck that may have crossed the centre line colliding with an upcoming SUV," said RCMP Cpl Annie Linteau.
"Three people have died in the SUV. One woman was apparently transported to hospital and she is in critical condition."
"Apparently it had been snowing in that area overnight, my information was that the snow had been melting, it was slightly wet, there may have been slippery sections, unknown if speed or weather conditions were a factor, but we can definitely say that there is no indication at this point that alcohol was involved," said Linteau.
The names of the victims have not yet been released by RCMP, but CTV News has learned that they were two married couples in their 50s all heading home in the SUV from a weekend ski trip.
