Heading north with winds as high as 420 kilometres per hour, the first touch down of the tornado was reported north east of Leduc at 2:59 p.m. MT on Friday, July 31, 1987.
Less than ninety minutes later, the tornado was gone but the swath of destruction cut across some 40 kilometres and would leave an indelible mark on Edmontonians to this day.
