The Alberta College of Paramedics admitted that individual registrant information was compromised during an unauthorized access to their student portal on Friday and Saturday.

During a software update to the “NavPortal” from around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, until approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, anyone with a login could view another person’s information in the college’s database.

In a press release, Tim Essington, the Alberta College of Paramedics Registrar and Executive Director explained that it was also possible to generate a new username and password to view other practitioners' information – which at least five people did.

The information at risk of disclosure includes personal information – such as name, date of birth, addresses, and phone numbers – and employment, education, and financial records.

The college will notify the Privacy Commissioner of the breach Monday.
