Police are warning the public about the release of a convicted sex offender who will be residing in the Edmonton area.

Officers say Gerald Albert Pomeroy, 54, was recently released from the Calgary Correctional Centre after completing a sentence for sexual assault.

Police say Pomeroy is a sexual and violent offender who has sexually assaulted girls under the age of 16.

Pomeroy is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 54 years old
  • 177 cm (5'10")
  • 86 kg (190 lbs)
  • Grey hair
  • Blue eyes

He will be residing in the Edmonton area and will be monitored by EPS detectives.

Police consider Pomeroy to be high risk to re-offend and issued the public information and warning on Wednesday, after “careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community.”

The public is advised to use this information to take suitable precautionary measures, not to engage in any form of vigilante action.
