1.    HOW TO ENTER. To enter the EDMONTON RENOVATION SHOW DIY DISASTER Contest (the "Contest") during the Contest Period simply visit the web site located at www.ctvedmonton.ca, click on the Contest page, complete and submit your entry by following the directions found on the Contest page. All entries must include your first and last name, address, email address and ten digit, day time and evening telephone numbers and one (1) or more picture(s) in a jpeg format depicting your personal DIY Disaster and/or a video in an HD format (mpeg4), and the story of your DIY Disaster (maximum three hundred words). The picture(s) and/or video and story will hereafter be collectively referred to as the "Submission". The Submission must be submitted in accordance with the Submission Guidelines set out below.  Limit of one (1) entry per individual.  If it is discovered that you attempted to enter more than once, all your entries will be void. In the event of a dispute, entries received on-line shall be deemed to be submitted by the "Authorized Account Holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization (e.g. business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.  Contest starts at 12:00 pm Mountain Time ("MT") on January 6, 2015 and closes on January 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. MT (the "Contest Period"). There is one (1) grand prize (the "Grand Prize"), three (3) finalist prizes (the "Finalist Prizes") and two (2) secondary prizes (the "Secondary Prizes") (collectively, the "Prizes" and each, a "Prize") to be won. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Limit of one (1) Finalist Prize per person.


2.    The Contest sponsors are Bell Media Inc. and Marketplace Events LLP (hereinafter referred to as the "Contest Sponsors").


3.    ELIGIBILITY. To enter and to be eligible to win, entrant must be a legal resident of Alberta, residing north of the southern boundary of Red Deer county (as determined by the Contest Sponsors at their sole discretion) and be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Employees and their parents, siblings and children, and persons domiciled with an employee of the Contest Sponsor, agents, parent, affiliated or related companies, subsidiaries, divisions, prize sponsors, and promotional and advertising agencies and administrators, are ineligible to enter.
Important notes:  If an entrant is selected as a potential Finalist, he/she must be available to attend and participate in a "DIY Disaster Building and Fabrication" competition (the "Competition") taking place at 11 a.m. on January 23, 2015 at Lowe’s as further described below.  If a Finalist is selected as the potential Grand Prize winner, he/she must be available to participate in the Interview taking place at Lowes immediately at the end of the Competition on January 23, 2015 as further described below and the Appearance taking place at The Edmonton Renovation Show on January 23, 2015 between Noon and 7 p.m. as further described below.  


4.    PRIZES. Finalist Prizes: There are three (3) Finalist Prizes, each consisting of four (4) Tickets for a one-time admittance to The Edmonton Renovation Show at the Northlands Expo Centre, 118 Avenue & Wayne Gretzky Drive, Edmonton, Alberta, on Friday, January 23, 2015. Approximate value of each Finalist Prize is Forty-eight Dollars ($48.00) CAD.
Secondary Prizes: There are two (2) Secondary Prizes, each consisting of one (1) Gift Card redeemable at Lowe’s Home Improvement locations in Canada. Approximate retail value of each Secondary Prize is Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($250) CAD.


Grand Prize: There is one (1) Grand Prize consisting of one (1) $5,000 Gift Card redeemable at Lowe’s Home Improvement locations in Canada.  Prior to being awarded the Grand Prize, the Grand Prize winner must be available to participate in an interview (the "Interview") that will be filmed at Lowes immediately after the Competition on January 23, 2015 and aired on CTV Edmonton and also, be available between Noon and 7 p.m. to attend The Edmonton Renovation Show between the hours of 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and 7:00 p.m. to receive the Grand Prize live on television. The television appearance (the "Appearance") and Interview are at the discretion of the Contest Sponsors. The exact time of the Appearance shall be determined by the Contest Sponsors as their sole discretion. The Grand Prize winner must be available to participate in the Interview and Appearance at the times scheduled otherwise the Grand Prize will be forfeited without compensation or substitution and the Contest Sponsors shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard. The Grand Prize winner will not receive any compensation for his/her Appearance or participation in the Interview. Approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) CAD. The Appearance has no retail value.


5.    Prizes must be accepted as awarded. The Prizes may not be sold, transferred and are not convertible to cash. Contest Sponsors reserve the right to substitute a Prize in whole or in part in the event that all or any component of a Prize is unavailable. Each Prize winner is solely responsible for all costs not expressly described herein.  


6.    SELECTION OF FINALISTS. On January 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. MT in Edmonton, Alberta, a three person committee (the "Committee") of CTV Edmonton employees will judge all eligible entries received during the Contest Period using a judging scale of 1 (representing the least) and 5 (representing the greatest value) as to which entries make the strongest visual impression (represented by the submitted photographs and/or video recordings) of a "DIY Disaster" and the severity of the "disaster" as interpreted by the Committee based on the submitted "description" stories. The discretion and judgement of the Committee will be final. The three (3) entries, as determined by the Committee, to be the most "disastrous" will be deemed Finalist Prize winners and eligible to compete in the Competition for a chance to win the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize.  The odds of winning a Finalist Prize will depend on the number and calibre of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.  Judging is scheduled to be completed by 4;00 pm on January 19, 2015.  Immediately following the completion of the judging, Bell Media will attempt to contact each Finalist by telephone.  Each potential Finalist must answer the phone when called or he/she will be disqualified (and will forfeit all rights to the Finalist Prize) and the Contest Sponsors shall have the right to select an alternate finalist in accordance with the process outlined above.  


Proof of identification must be provided upon request.  Before being declared a confirmed Finalist and winner of a Finalist Prize, each potential Finalist must sign and return within one (1) business day of notification a declaration and release prepared by the Contest Sponsors, which, among other things: (i) requires the entrant to correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question without mechanical or other aid; (ii) confirms compliance with these Rules; (iii) agrees to release the Contest Sponsors from any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from any liability in connection with this Contest and/or his/her participation therein (including the Competition); (iv) accepts the Finalist Prize as offered; (v) releases the Contest Sponsors from any and all liability of any kind arising out of the potential Finalist’s participation in this Contest (including the Competition) and receipt and use of the Finalist Prize; and, (vi) agrees to the publication, reproduction and/or other use of his/her name, address, voice, statements about the Contest and/or photograph or other likeness without further notice or compensation, in any publicity or advertisement carried out by or on behalf of the Contest Sponsors in any manner whatsoever, including print, broadcast or the internet.  If a potential Finalist: (a) fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question; (b) fails to return the properly executed the declaration and release within the specified time; and/or (c) cannot be declared a Finalist in accordance with these Rules for any reason; then he/she will be disqualified (and will forfeit all rights to be a Finalist) and the Contest Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole and absolute discretion, to select an alternate Finalist (in which case the foregoing provisions of this section shall apply to such new potential Finalist), however the potential Finalists must be confirmed by January 20, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. MT (the "Confirmation Cut-off Time"). In the event that only one (1) Finalist has been confirmed by the Confirmation Cut-off Time, he/she will be deemed the potential Grand Prize winner and the Secondary Prizes will go un-awarded.   In the event that only two (2) Finalists have been confirmed by the Confirmation Cut-off Time, the Competition will proceed and one of the Secondary Prizes will go un-awarded.  In the event neither Finalist has been confirmed by the Confirmation Cut-off Time, the Competition will be cancelled and the Prizes will go un-awarded.


7.    COMPETITION & SELECTION OF GRAND PRIZE & SECONDARY PRIZE WINNERS. On January 23, 2015 each confirmed Finalist will be required to present himself/herself at the Lowe’s Home Improvement location at 10141 - 13 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB at 11:00 a.m. MT to participate in the Competition for a chance to win the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize.  In the event that one of the confirmed Finalists does not register by this time and the other two confirmed Finalists do register by this time, the Finalist that did not register will forfeit his/her chance to win the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize and the Finalists that successfully registered will participate in the Competition (and one of the Secondary Prizes will go un-awarded).  In the event that two out of three confirmed Finalists do not register by this time, the two Finalists that do not register will forfeit their chance to win the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize and the one confirmed Finalist will be awarded the Grand Prize (and the Secondary Prizes will go un-awarded).  In the course of the Competition, each confirmed Finalist will have fifteen (15) minutes to open and create a "Build and Grow Kid's Beginner Woodworking Project (School Bus Kit)" using the same materials supplied by the Contest Sponsors. At the end of the Competition, each Finalist’s "Bus Kit" will be judged by Bryan Baeumler (a representative of the Contest Sponsors selected by the Contest Sponsors at their sole discretion) and will be assigned a score on the basis of the following equally-weighted criteria: (1) creativity; (2) individual skill with tools by the participant; and (3) functionality.  The confirmed Finalist that obtains the higher score will be deemed the Grand Prize winner and the remaining Finalists will be deemed the Secondary Prize winners.  In the event of a tie, the confirmed Finalist that obtained the higher score on the creativity criteria outlined above will be deemed the Grand Prize winner.  The odds of winning the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize shall be no worse than 1 in 3.
In order to be declared a Grand Prize or Secondary Prize winner (as applicable), each potential winner must first correctly answer, unaided, a time limited mathematical skill testing question administered by Bell Media Inc. Before being awarded the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize (as applicable), each potential winner will be required to sign and return within the time stipulated by the Contest Sponsors, a full release and indemnity form stating that he/she: (i) grants all consents required; (ii) authorizes the Contest Sponsors to broadcast, publish and disseminate his/her name, city of residence, photograph, likeness, sobriquet and voice, in connection with any promotion or publicity, and/or for general news, entertainment and information purposes at no additional compensation to the potential winner, beyond the awarding of or participation in the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize as applicable; (iii) accepts the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize (as applicable) as offered; (iv) in respect of the Grand Prize winner only, grants and assigns all rights in and to the Interview and Appearance including, without limitation, all rights of copyright in favour of the Contest Sponsors; and (v) releases the Contest Sponsors from any and all liability of any kind arising out of the potential Grand Prize and/or Secondary Prize winner’s participation in this Contest and receipt and use of the Grand Prize or Secondary Prize (as applicable). In the event that the potential Grand Prize or Secondary Prize winner does not comply with all the provisions as contemplated in these Rules, the Contest Sponsors shall have the right to disqualify the potential winner and the Contest Sponsors shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard.


8.    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES.  Submissions must be original and not include any third party’s proprietary content, including trade-marks or copyrighted content. Contest Sponsors, in their sole discretion, may disqualify any entrant who uses third party proprietary content, at any time. Contest Sponsors further reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to edit any Submission to blur out any trade-marks or to remove any copyrighted content, including but not limited to, music or video clips, as applicable. Contest Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any Submissions that involve anything illegal, potentially or actually dangerous or harmful or containing any element of physical risk, at any time. Any Submission that involves a third party that does not choose to be part of the Submission may also be disqualified.  Submissions must not include any illegal, defamatory or in any way obscene content. Submissions cannot be a parody or derogatory.  Submissions remain the property of the entrant, however by entering this Contest, each entrant: (i) represents and warrants that his/her Submission is her or her original work and does not infringe on any third party’s copyright, trade-mark or other intellectual property rights; (ii) represents and warrants that he/she has all necessary rights from any third party that appears, or is mentioned, in the Submission, including those from the parent or legal guardian if third party is under the age of majority; (iii) grants the Contest Sponsors, an unlimited, royalty free, irrevocable, right and license to reproduce, post and/or broadcast the Submission in any form of media now known or hereinafter developed; (iv) waives all moral rights in the Submission in favour of the Contest Sponsors; (v) agrees to release, indemnify, discharge and hold harmless the Contest Sponsors from any claim or liability arising from or related to the Submission and/or his/her participation in this Contest; and (vi) consents to the publication and/or use, in any medium of the entrant’s Submission, name, city of residence, photograph and/or image for publicity purposes carried out by the Contest Sponsors and/or their advertising and promotional agencies without payment or compensation of any kind. Submissions may be showcased by Contest Sponsors on a public viewing gallery, including without limitation, on the Contest website. Contest Sponsors assume no responsibility for any claims against infringement of the right of privacy with respect to any Submission.


9.    By entering this Contest, the entrants and participants automatically agree to accept and abide by these Rules. All decisions of the Contest Sponsors and Committee with respect to any aspect of this Contest, including without limitation the eligibility of entries and Submissions, are final and binding on all entrants in all matters as they relate to this Contest.


10.    All entries become the property of Contest Sponsors who assume no responsibility for garbled, lost, late, delayed, destroyed or misdirected mail, voice messages, e-mail or any computer errors or malfunctions. Contest Sponsors do not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, seeding or printing errors, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer line or network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof. Entry materials-data that have been tampered with or altered are void. If for any reason, in the opinion of the Contest Sponsors, in their sole discretion, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, or if the administration, security, fairness, integrity or the proper conduct of the Contest is corrupted or adversely affected, including by reason of  tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond  control, Contest Sponsors reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify, amend, extend or suspend the Contest including canceling any method of entry, and select a winner from previously received eligible entries. Contest Sponsors reserve the right to modify the Rules without materially affecting the terms and conditions hereof. The Contest Sponsors reserve the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any individual find to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of the Rules or otherwise in a disruptive manner. Any attempts to deliberately damage the Contest Website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent of the law. Contest Sponsors shall not be held responsible for any errors or negligence that may arise or occur in connection with the Contest including any damage to an entrant’s computer equipment, system, software or any combination thereof, as a result of their participation in this Contest or from downloading any material from the Contest Website.


11.    Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. By entering this Contest each entrant consents to the collection, use and distribution of his or her personal information (information that identifies an entrant as an individual, such as home telephone number, age and home address) by the Contest Sponsors for the purposes of implementing, administering and fulfilling this Contest. Contest Sponsors will not sell or transmit this information to third parties except for the purposes of administering this Contest. By entering the Contest, entrants consent to the manner of collection, use and disclosure of personal information as set out in Bell Media Inc.'s Privacy Policy, which is available at www.bellmedia.ca/about/Media_Privacy.page. 12.    All intellectual property, including but not limited to trade-marks, trade-names, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Contest Sponsors and/or their affiliates. All rights are reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any copyrighted material or intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
