The retired star of The Price is Right game show, has sent a letter to Edmonton city council urging the elephant named Lucy be transferred to a U.S. sanctuary.
Barker, a longtime animal rights advocate said being around other animals would improve Lucy's physical and mental health.
Protesters have lobbied the zoo to send Lucy to an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, saying the cold Edmonton weather and seclusion have brought on foot infections and abnormal behaviour.
A city spokesman has said the sanctuary is not accredited by any zoo organization and moving Lucy would hurt her more than having her treated in Alberta.
Lucy has been the sole elephant at the zoo since its other elephant, Samantha, was sent to a U.S. facility for breeding back in September 2007.
