The federal government announced a funding boost for the Town of Devon Tuesday – meant to help the community upgrade town facilities.

James Rajotte, Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Leduc, announced the funding in a press conference Tuesday.

The $240,527 will go into the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), and will go towards improving the Dale Fisher Arena, including upgrading the bleachers and board systems.

The improvements will increase seating capacity and accessibility at the facility.

Rajotte said the funding will help improve a main gathering place in the town.

“Arenas like this for communities like Devon are really a focal point, it draws people in for activities whether you’re on the ice or a parent or fan in the stands,” Rajotte said Tuesday. “It also acts as a gathering for the community in terms of coming together.”

Many of the renovations at the arena have already begun.
