One person was taken to hospital and eight others are out of their homes after a fire at an Edmonton rooming house.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey house on 96 Street near 106A Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The fire was under control within ten minutes. Four men and four women were forced to find shelter elsewhere.

The Red Cross is helping the eight people who have been displaced with food and accommodations for 72 hours.

The cause and damage estimate are still under investigation.
