Edmonton police have laid charges against a lawyer, after investigators found methamphetamine with an inmate last week.
Police said on Thursday, September 19, lawyer Justin Sidhu, 31, went to the Edmonton Remand Centre to meet with a client, he had a package with him, that he said contained privileged information meant only for his client.
After that package was delivered, Correctional Peace Officers noticed contraband inside the centre – and the package was seized.
During the search, officials found about six grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated value of $6,000.
As a result, Sidhu has been charged with one count of trafficking a controlled substance.
The investigation was conducted by the EPS Institutional Investigative Unit, made up of three detectives that only deal with incidents at Edmonton-area correctional facilities.
The unit has laid three trafficking charges against visitors since the unit launched at the end of June.
